Aleksandar Valeriev Dinkov is an MSc Strength and Conditioning student from Bulgaria. Having initially studied Sports and Exercise Science BSc (Hons) at Coventry, Aleksandar came back to do a postgraduate degree.

Aleksandar’s choice to study at Coventry came from the recognised awards for teaching, international students’ experience, its wide diversity and friendly environment, and our high alumni employment rate.

Both of my degrees were more than brilliant; the quality that Coventry offers is unparalleled and I had the honour of being taught by widely recognised lecturers and specialists.

My time at the university taught me how to be critical about any topic, how to research, and the ability to reflect on my professional and personal life. The constant support from academics had a strong, positive impact on my academic, personal and professional goals.

The biggest advantage of being a Coventry University student was that I was able to connect with so many people from various cultures and backgrounds, which I found to be highly educational and enjoyable. The facilities that we had were top-notch, especially in comparison to other universities. Coventry were able to provide us with top-of-the-range modern technology in order to conduct the most credible research and lab testing.

I was also a part of different societies and sports societies, which made my university experience far more enjoyable and worthwhile, since there were so many extracurricular activities which were super exciting.

Another thing that makes Coventry stand out from other universities are the global engagement programmes that are offered to all students. These programmes offer a vast selection of activities, opportunities for travelling, year abroad experiences and multicultural education. My advice to students, even ones who are not from the UK, would be to always find the time to opt onto a programme as they are what make the university experience here so great, whilst significantly enhancing your CV. I can proudly say that going the extra mile is what assisted me in believing I can achieve more than just a degree. From my year, I was one of the 24 students who received a Golden Leadership Award, and I was also nominated for Student of the Year, Volunteer of the Year and Best Club Leader.

Following my graduation, I‘d like to receive accreditations from some of the top three strength and conditioning associations: the UKSCA (United Kingdom’s Strength and Conditioning Association), the USA’s NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association) and the ASCA (Australian Strength and Conditioning Association). I’d like to establish myself as a well known and successful strength and conditioning coach. Most importantly though, I want to work my dream job and enjoy every part of it as this is what true happiness is. Seeking this goal would not have been possible if it wasn’t for the financial aid and constant support of my family and close friends who were always there for me whenever I needed them the most.
