Captivating. Engaging. Thought-provoking.

These are the three words I would use to describe the Aviation Management BSc (Hons) course at Coventry University.

Why I chose aviation management at Coventry University

When I was looking around at courses available, I believed that Coventry offered the best aviation management related degree in the UK. This was due to a number of things, firstly the teaching staff were all experienced in terms of industry and academic experience, the quality of the course and teaching structure and also the opportunities on offer.

The quality of teaching from the staff, they have built the course to cover a broad range of subjects covering the aviation industry. I also enjoy the fact there are no exams on the course, I am able to piece together the knowledge I have learned throughout university in coursework that has made me think more critically.

The course has definitely developed me as a person, my skills have improved immensely not only academic but also personal. My improved skills include critical thinking, teamwork, leadership, analysis and communication.

The facilities at Coventry University are modern and fresh, the library and The Hub provide central spaces to study and work offering several different areas to study suiting every individual’s needs.

My most memorable time at Coventry, would be the international field trip I took part in during my second year. We travelled around Switzerland for a week visiting many of the major cities where we visited major stakeholders in the Swiss and European aviation industry.

My placement and preparing for the world of work

I took an industrial placement for a year between second and final year, I was a programme controller working on a large aerospace programme.

I cannot talk much about what I did due to security clearance, non-disclosures and need to know agreements. I also took part in the global leaders programme which gave me the opportunity to attend guest lectures and learn about leading in a global world.

The course has prepared me for the world of work because it has helped me develop my skill set and provided me with a business mindset fit for the world of aviation.

Future career plans

I have plans to work in the aviation industry and working my way to a senior position. I always wanted to become a pilot, but when I discovered the aviation management degree, it opened many opportunities that I had not explored and realised that I wanted to make an impact to the industry in a different way to being a pilot.

Recommending aviation management

I would recommend the Aviation Management course at Coventry University to friends. This is because aviation is a growing diverse industry with many opportunities available, the aviation management course at Coventry prepares you for a variety of managerial roles in the aviation industry.

The advice that I would give to someone considering studying aviation management is that knowledge of the aviation industry is not a prerequisite to study aviation management. If you are interested in studying aviation, everything you need to know can be learned on the journey.
