Overview
This module is designed for students to enable them to examine the philosophical basis of research and evaluate different research methods used in health and social science.
Course detail
- This module uses classroom based teaching and some online learning support, which allows for a flexible student engagement.
- This module gives students the chance to enhance their research knowledge in order to expand their range of employment opportunities.
- The skills acquired during this module will provide students with a general approach to problem solving that is transferable to other situations.
- The philosophical basis for designing research studies.
- The selection and evaluation of research methodology and design to address specific research questions or hypotheses.
- Knowledge and skills relevant for research project design.
- The use of appropriate data analysis techniques.
- The evaluation of ethical, political, legal and social issues associated with the development of a research proposal.
How will this course be taught
This module will be classroom based covering the theory and practice of research methods; online learning will be used to support teaching and learning.

- Master degree enrolment
- English Language level: English as Foreign Language: IELTS 6.0 or above with a minimum of 5.5 in each element.
Assessment
- Coursework 1: 15 minute Presentation (20% of module mark)
- Coursework 2: 4000 word Report (80% of module mark)
