CU Coventry celebrates contribution to Coventry University’s Gold rating in new Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF)

CU Coventry, part of the Coventry University Group, is celebrating its part in Coventry University achieving a Gold Rating in a new government ranking of how well students are taught across UK universities.

The University achieved the top accolade in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), published on Thursday 22 June by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE).

The TEF assesses universities on the quality of their teaching by looking at measures including student satisfaction, student retention rates and graduate employment levels. Its award ratings of gold, silver and bronze are valid for up to three years.

A total of 134 higher education institutions took part in the TEF with just over 30% achieving Gold, meaning that Coventry scored higher than several Russell Group institutions.

CU Coventry’s National Student Survey (NSS) results (2015-2016) were cited as part of the TEF submission, highlighting that 92% of students were satisfied with the teaching on their course and 90% of students were satisfied with the level of academic support.

CU Coventry’s focus on employability skills was also cited, with the importance of  the ‘recognition of courses by professional, statutory and regulatory bodies’ highlighting CU Coventry’s links with the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT), Chartered Management Institute (CMI), Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx), The College of Policing and the Institute of Sales Management (ISM).

Coventry’s Gold rating in the TEF follows its strong performance in the Guardian University Guide 2018, in which it climbed to 12^th place – its highest ever listing. Coventry was also the highest placed modern university in the Complete University Guide 2018.
