Talented students studying in Coventry have had their achievements celebrated at a prestigious ceremony – as they go on to embark on careers in cutting-edge industries or progress into further education.
CU Coventry, part of the Coventry University Group, has held its second graduation ceremony of 2018 at Coventry Cathedral.
The event saw Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer John Dishman give an inspirational speech congratulating the 193 graduates on their successes and wishing them well for the future.
The institute then welcomed the graduates and invited guests to an after party at St Mary’s Guildhall where the celebrations continued, and expert advisors were on-hand to provide careers support.
CU Coventry offers an innovative career-focused model of education which sees students taught by industry experts, take part in live project briefs and regularly hear from internationally-recognised guest speakers, putting them in the best possible position to move into employment.
Callum Silva was one of those to graduate at the ceremony. He graduated with a First Class Honours Degree in IT Practitioner and is now going on to study a Masters degree in Information Security at Royal Holloway University, in London.
He joined CU Coventry because of the institute’s unique model of education and small class sizes.
It’s been an excellent experience studying at CU Coventry. The structure of studying one module at a time meant the course was easier to manage and the small class sizes gave me more contact with my tutors, something that is very different from the traditional university experience.
I am now studying my Masters degree and am looking to go into digital forensics.

I would like to congratulate all of our hugely talented graduates on their achievements.
I have no doubt that they will go on to become leaders in their fields as they progress up the career ladder in their respective industries.
The ceremony has been the perfect way to celebrate the end of 2018 as we move into a milestone year for CU Coventry which will see us move into our new £33 million state-of-the-art campus which will provide students and staff with a modern and inspiring learning environment.

Graduates were keen to talk about their time at CU Coventry, and had the following to say about their experiences while studying as well as their plans for the future.
I decided to study for a degree through CU Coventry's Saturday University offer, so that I could continue working and fit my studies in around family life after having my daughter.
It was an intense 3 years but I've really enjoyed my time at CU Coventry, and am now going on to study a Masters at Coventry University.
Abeda Bhayat, Professional Accounting
I came to CU Coventry after hearing how good it was from a family member who studied here.
I’ve really enjoyed my time, it’s been an amazing experience. I was also a student ambassador which was a lot of fun and gave me the opportunity to travel.
I’m very pleased to graduate and would now like to go into recruitment.
Denis Okechukwu, Management & Leadership
I didn’t achieve the grades I had hoped for in my A-levels, but CU Coventry gave me the opportunity to study for a degree rather than re-taking my exams.
The smaller class sizes meant I had more contact time with my tutors and was able to ask for help if I needed it. I’m now looking forward to completing a Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) course at the University of Birmingham, and would ultimately like to teach abroad.
