Here is more information that can help answer a number of the questions we often get asked.

What is CU?

CU Coventry, CU London and CU Scarborough come together to form CU, part of the Coventry University Group. The relationship between CU campuses is like no other, as you’ll have the opportunity to move between each campus after completing an academic year (specific courses only). This means you can study in the city, on the stunning Yorkshire coast or in the UK's capital.

Delivering an innovative approach to higher education, CU allows you to fit studying around your busy life.

Gaining higher-level skills and qualifications is a goal that many of us have, but sometimes it can be difficult or virtually impossible to fit traditional ways of studying around existing commitments; this is where we come in.

CU is for people who want to benefit from high quality courses in a modern learning environment. Providing a focused teaching and learning experience, offering both academic and professional qualifications, with flexible study options at a level and pace that suits you.

Study Modes

Bachelor’s Degree with Honours

The undergraduate Honours Degree is a level 6 qualification offered by the UK university system and is what students commonly go to university to study.

Higher National Diploma (HND)

The Higher National Diploma (HND) is a level 5 qualification and is the equivalent to the second year of a degree level qualification. If you successfully pass your HND, you are guaranteed a place on the final year of an Honours Degree at CU Coventry, CU London or CU Scarborough.

Higher National Certificate (HNC)

The Higher National Certificate (HNC) is a level 4 qualification and is the equivalent to the first year of a degree level qualification. If you successfully pass your HNC, you are guaranteed a place on a HND at CU Coventry, CU London or CU Scarborough.

Foundation year courses

A degree with foundation year gives you a direct, accessible route to your desired higher education path. It's a four-year undergraduate course that includes an additional year of study at the start. This foundation year is designed to give you the necessary knowledge and skills to progress onto degree-level study.

A foundation year offers an introductory route to your chosen degree subject. It's an introduction to the subject you're interested and aims to help you develop the skills needed for degree-level study. On successful completion, you will be guaranteed a place on a relevant degree at CU Coventry or if you prefer, at another CU location (subject to course availability). If you know where you want to study and which degree, all you have to do is speak to your course tutor and they will organise this for you.

Access to Higher Education (HE) Diploma

The Access to HE Diploma is a level 3 qualification which helps to prepare students for higher education study. Offering an introduction to a subject area, as well as providing the skills needed for higher education, an Access to HE Diploma can help to give confidence to students who do not have previous qualifications or who may be embarking on a new profession. If you successfully pass your Access to HE Diploma, you are guaranteed a place on an Honours Degree at CU Coventry, CU London or CU Scarborough.

Top Up Degree

If you already hold a level 5 qualification (such as a HND or Foundation Degree) which suitably matches our course material, subject to assessment by CU’s Registry & Admissions Team, you may be eligible to join the final year of an Honours Degree. This would allow you to top up your qualification, meaning you will then hold a full Honours Degree.

What are the entry requirements for each level of study?

Foundation 40 UCAS tariff points
