Barking and Dagenham Council, CU London and the Adult College have launched a Leadership and Management Development Apprenticeship Programme for the council’s managers.
The programme, which is delivered by Coventry University and the Adult College, offers council staff a bespoke, professionally accredited and nationally recognised professional management qualification.
The apprenticeship programme will be delivered by CU London, part of the Coventry University Group, as well as the Adult College and will deliver flexible higher education courses from their sites in Barking, Dagenham and Greenwich.
The council recognises that staff play a critical role in delivering first class services and is investing in its managers to make sure they have the tools they need to deliver relentlessly reliable services for residents.
Barking and Dagenham Council has partnered with CU London, the Adult College and the Chartered Management Institute to develop two programmes:
We are very proud of our role in the community to provide locally accessible and good quality higher education that provides students with the skills employers need and value. I hope that this programme will equip many council staff to gain professional skills and qualifications, to enhance their careers and ultimately the services they provide to the borough that the team at CU London appreciates greatly.
Andy Ginn, Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CU London
Residents drive everything we do at Barking and Dagenham and we’re committed to giving our residents the best, high quality services they deserve. A key way we’re doing this is by giving our staff opportunities to learn and enhance the skills they need to consistently deliver. I would like to really thank Coventry University for helping us in this goal.
Cllr Dominic Twomey, Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Finance, Performance & Core Services
Due to the pandemic many residents have been affected by reduced income and unemployment, and local businesses are struggling. To help weather the storm the Council recently launched BD Working Together to support local people into employment, upskilling and training opportunities, as well as offer a helping hand to local businesses.
In addition, to mark National Apprenticeship Week (8-14 February), the Council is also sharing a range of information to help residents kickstart to their careers through apprenticeships, including sharing experiences from current apprentices, a Q&A session on how to get started and dispelling apprenticeship myths.
Residents can get more information about the apprenticeship opportunities that are available, and the support the Council offers, by visiting the Barking and Dagenham Council web site.
