Students from a Dagenham secondary school were given the chance to photograph the area's biggest landmark - with one keen photographer getting their work hung up inside.
After being invited to Dagenham Civic Centre by CU London, who took over the building last year, 25 year 9 pupils from Eastbrook School were let loose to capture the iconic site as artistically as they could, with the winner’s piece set to be used on marketing material in the future.
The winning photograph, taken by Ellie Clarke, will now be hung up for all to see when they enter the iconic building, with Ellie also receiving a £20 Amazon voucher for her hard work.
The competition was put together by staff at CU London to continue engagement with the community and provide another opportunity for the heritage of the iconic Civic Centre being celebrated.
Andy Ginn, Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor at CU London, said:
We were honoured to welcome students from Eastbrook School and give them a tour of our fantastic campus.
As the leading higher education establishment in our area, we are keen to make connections with nearby schools and we thought this was a great opportunity to do that as well as celebrate the historic site we have taken over.
Giving the pupils a chance to unleash their creative side as well as learning more about the history of this iconic building is something we are proud to have been able to do.
Amir Nathan, Head of Photography at Eastbrook School, said:
The photography competition was a great opportunity for our pupils to get to learn more about the Civic Centre, which is one of the great buildings in our area.
We have a lot of talented students who really took to the challenge. It was a great experience for those who took part.
CU London moved into the historic Grade II listed former Dagenham Civic Centre, which is now transformed into a top-quality university learning environment thanks to a £4.5 million investment, last September.
