Return to Nursing Practice with CU Scarborough
Our Return to Practice course is designed for nurses whose registration has lapsed due to taking a break. Successful completion of the programme will allow readmission to the Nursing and Midwifery Council Register.
CU Scarborough will become a Return to Practice course provider from 2022, and already offers an acclaimed set of nursing programmes to the North Yorkshire region, thanks to its supportive learning environment.
Returners are hugely important to the NHS for their wealth of experience, so the course will be paid for by Health Education England (as long as you are living or working in England and meet all of the entry criteria detailed below), with an extra £1000 for further expenses like childcare. Many returners found that responding to the Covid-19 pandemic was rewarding, wanted to explore a new part of the NHS, or just wanted to make a difference again.

Course details
The course is a 12-week theory module with a 2000 word assignment. Students attend one day a week and have a maximum of one year to complete the programme. The fields of nursing we are offering the return to practice course for are: Adult, Mental Health and Learning Disability.

The course will be every Wednesday from 8 May 2023. |
Returnee Entry Requirements:
- Occupational Health Clearance
- Enhanced Disclosing and Barring Service Clearance
Mandatory training must be completed in the first semester:
- Trust induction programme in designated clinical area
- Minimum 150 hours – maximum 450 hours of clinical practice
- Completion of Placement Assessment Document (PAD)
Course Funding:
- Health Education England (HEE), will pay course fees (£1600 per returnee) and placement fees (£500 per returnee).
- The returnee will receive a £1000 bursary, which may be used for travel expenses, childcare costs etc.

We are delighted to have CU Scarborough (Coventry University’s Scarborough campus) join our regional network of return to practice course providers from 2022.
This is such an important opportunity to help develop our nursing workforce in Yorkshire and we have seen a wide range of motivated and inspiring nursing professionals return to many different roles within the NHS. Many individual returners have also provided incredible support during the Covid-19 pandemic and have realised how important they are, what they still have to offer in nursing and how rewarding the role can be.
