Widening participation and outreach
We offer a range of activities and resources to support the learning of young people. They’re completely free and resources are supplied.
Our activities are designed for students in Years 7-13 (age 11-18). Please see below for a description for each.
‘Get Involved’
We have created several activities that can be delivered in school or at other settings by teachers and support staff. Designed to support young people’s learning over a range of different subject areas.
Draw Your Future
School curriculum link: Art, Design, PSHE and Careers
Draw Your Future is an activity for discussing future ambitions in a creative way. Students will receive three post cards of black and white images representing our campuses, which are able to be coloured in however students like!
The fourth postcard is blank, in order for students to let loose their creative skills. Students can create a design representing their future, which could include sixth form, college, apprenticeship, university or the career of their choice.
Future Me
School curriculum link: Pre & Post-16 Qualification progression and Careers (Gatsby Benchmark)
For many young people the thought of answering the question, ‘”What do you want to be when you grow up?” can be daunting. So we have created an activity to help young people answer this question by exploring the range of options available to them. From GCSEs to Post-16 options, and what courses are available at university, Future Me provides the individual with the opportunity to think about their future as well as their plans and dreams.
*This activity meets a number of the Gatsby benchmarks for Good Career Guidance.
New Beginnings
School curriculum link: Art, Design, PSHE and Well-being
Deigned for students who are creative or just want to get a few things off their mind, New Beginnings has been designed with student wellbeing in mind. Our self-standing 3D thought trees support mental health and mindfulness, along with the opportunity for students to let their artistic flair run wild!
An opportunity for students to think about the past 12 months, New Beginning is a chance to reflect on personal experiences of having lived through a global pandemic and how it has affected their life and others around them, whether in a positive and/or negative way. It’s also an opportunity to plan for the future and think about specific hopes and dreams, whilst relieving stress and anxiety. Want to learn more, please watch our video:
The World of Nursing
School curriculum link: Science, Health and Social Care and Careers in Nursing including literacy element
If you have any students thinking of becoming a Nurse, or those who are curious to learn more about where a Nursing degree can take them, this this activity will enable them to explore the World of Nursing. By identifying various environments a nursing career can lead (not just hospitals and GP clinics), students can familiarise themselves with today’s nursing equipment, hear from our current student nurses, take a virtual tour of our nursing facilities and find out what healthy poo looks like, plus much more!

The World of Sociology
School curriculum link: Sociology, History, English, PSHE, Careers in Sociology including literacy element
This activity provides students with the opportunity to learn about the world of sociology and where a Sociology degree can take them. Students will be able explore the various environments where sociologists work, hear from our current Sociology students, discover their social world and challenge the big social issues in our society.

The World of Law
School curriculum link: History, English, PSHE, Politics, Careers in Law
Are your students considering a career in Law? This activity provides an opportunity for students to explore the court room, including a virtual tour of court room environment, learn about key roles within the legal profession and identify the types of work that a lawyer would encounter in practice. It also challenges students to think about why law is important both in society and to them as an individual.

Teachers, youth workers and other professionals
We provide a whole range of interactive sessions, delivered in school or as part of our HE Experience Days on any of our campuses. These sessions are informative and engaging, all of which require lots of audience participation!
- General What is HE / University sessions (30-60 minutes)
Interactive and engaging information relevant for their current situation. - University Jeopardy (20-30 minutes)
Quiz style based on family fortunes linked to HE information. - Student Personas (20-30 minutes) (Works well with a student ambassador session)
Pupils create their own student personas and we delve into stereotypes and perceptions of University and where these come from, and if they are actually true. - University Pictionary (20-30 minutes)
An opportunity for students to link qualifications to career paths in a fun and interactive way.
