Extended master's with work experience
As employability is at the core of what we do at Coventry University, a range of our master’s courses at Coventry University and Coventry University London are designed specifically with the option of a professional workplace experience.
This provides you with the opportunity to put theory into practice in a professional setting. You will be able to develop your knowledge and skills to strengthen what you’ve learnt in your academic studies.
The university offers a number of courses with this option, and across each faculty there are some differences in format and delivery. Our range of courses which include this work experience opportunity currently incorporates postgraduate programmes including:

Explore what is available within each faculty:
Faculty of Business and Law
- Offers support to help students identify, prepare and apply for a range of work placement opportunities through dedicated employment teams.
- Flexibility to extend course with a placement that can be either 1, 2 or 3 semesters long, so either 4 months, 8 months, or 12 months.
- During the professional experience students will be supported by an academic supervisor, who can assist with academic issues, as well as the employability team.
- Courses include; Accounting and Financial Management, Brand Management, Sport Management and Law.
Faculty of Health and Life Sciences
- All students enrolled on our extended master's courses can undertake 6-8 months of professional experience (subject to terms and conditions), either externally or on campus.
- Placement hosts have previously included local, national and multi-national companies, hospitals and research organisations.
- The duration of the course is typically 20 months full-time for the versions with professional experience.
- Courses include; Applied Psychology, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology and Pharmacology and Drug Discovery.
Faculty of Engineering and Computing
- Offers support to help students identify, prepare and apply for a range of work placement opportunities through dedicated employment teams
- 9-12 month work experience opportunities.
- Work placement module runs through semesters three to five.
- Courses include; Automotive Engineering, Civil Engineering, Cyber Security, Supply Chain Management and Logistics.
Faculty of Arts and Humanities
- Offers support to help students identify, prepare and apply for a range of work placement opportunities through dedicated employment teams.
- All students enrolled on these courses undertake 6-8 months of professional experience, either externally or on campus.
- During the professional experience students will be supported by an academic supervisor as well as the employability team.
- Courses include: Automotive and Transport Design, Communication, Culture and Media, Design Management and Product Design Innovation.
Coventry University London
- Offers support in helping students to secure an extended work placement.
- Courses are delivered over 18 months, with 22 weeks of this being professional experience.
- Courses include; Global Financial Trading, Professional Accounting and International Hospitality and Tourism Management.
