Accommodation FAQs

The accommodation we have available is a mix of Coventry University-owned halls and private halls of residence we have partnerships with. This is specified on our web pages, online application portal, and in our accommodation brochure.

Generally, Coventry University-owned halls offer 39- or 43-weeks contracts for undergraduate students and 50-weeks contracts for postgraduate students. Contract lengths are not related to your course length, so check what your term dates will be first before submitting your accommodation application. In certain circumstances, we may be able to provide extensions, provided we are notified in advance. For our partner private halls, please check contract lengths with them directly.

Our flats are mostly mixed-sex, but we do have a limited number of single-sex flats. Please ensure you specify your gender-sharing preferences on your application and we will do our best to accommodate it, subject to availability.

We allocate rooms based on the date you submitted your application, not by course. This means the residents in each flat will be students from a mix of courses.

Our University-owned halls are reasonably supported 24/7 by our protection Service, CCTV, and access control by multiple key/fob entry points. Bishop Gate, Godiva Place and The Cycle Works also have an access-controlled entry in reception. For our partner private halls, please check with them directly.

We offer a guaranteed place in either University or privately-owned accommodation for all Coventry University and CU Coventry applicants accepted through UCAS Clearing.

Online applications for September 2023 are open. There is currently a £500 discount applied to selected ensuite rooms in Bishop Gate and Godiva Place which are both University Owned Halls. Terms and conditions apply, with the discount available until 24.08.23.

This is entirely personal, based on your own preferences and requirements. You may want to consider things like location, size of flats and halls, costs, and specific facilities such as en suite or shared bathrooms.

There is a 'group reference' page in our application, where you can indicate your wish to stay with a group of friends. This ‘group reference’ is created by you and can be anything you wish. The exact same reference must be added to each application for all members of the group. We will try, wherever possible, to allocate groups together, but it is not guaranteed as some applications (for example unconditional students) can be allocated earlier than others (for example conditional students).

We have a variety of adapted rooms including fully adapted, partially adapted and deaf adapted. You can specify in your application whether you would require an adapted room and which kind of adaptation you would need. Please note that we may ask for medical evidence to support any application for these room types as they are subject to availability. We offer full-year accommodation contracts for Care Leavers. We also offer a support scheme where you may be able to receive a 100% discount on your rent (subject to eligibility). Please refer to our students with special requirements page for more information.

We do reserve several rooms in halls for returning (2nd or 3rd year) students, subject to availability. We will email residents when applications open for returner rooms. We also have several ‘show flat’ rooms available for returning students, which come with an incentive for showing their room on open day events (subject to additional T&Cs).

Pets are NOT allowed in any of our accommodations unless for a specific medical reason. Guide dogs or other animals required for medical therapy are excepted, subject to medical evidence and additional T&C. For partner halls, please check with the hall manager.

Yes, you can. You can have 1 guest staying for a maximum of 2 nights in any 7-day period, and this will need to be approved by your hall manager by submitting an overnight guest request form 72 hours in advance. Day guests are also allowed until 11pm in the evening subject to signing into the hall. For partner halls, please check with them directly.

Laundry facilities are available on each site but they charge for usage. In University-owned halls, it is usually £2.20 for a wash and £1.20 for a dry cycle (prices may vary). They usually work on a top-up card to reduce the need for exact change in coins. For our partner private halls, please check with them directly.

We provide basic contents insurance in our University-owned halls with Endsleigh. You have the option of buying additional cover if you're bringing lots of devices with you or specific items which you want to be covered separately. We'll send more information about what's covered in the weeks before you arrive on campus.

Applications open to Firm students from March in the year you are due to start your course. If you make Coventry your Firm choice after that time, you will be invited to apply.

Insurance students can apply once they have changed their options to reflect Coventry as their new Firm choice - this may be once they receive their A-level results in August.

We recommend applying for accommodation as soon as you are eligible (making Coventry University as your Firm choice). You will be asked to choose from several options on the application and we recommend you apply for as many options as the application will allow (this will vary depending on whether you are undergraduate, postgraduate or exchange). This will give us the best chance of offering you one of your choices.

Yes, if Coventry University is your Firm choice.

Deferred students apply for accommodation during the months before their study/course start date. For example, if you are due to start your course in September 2022, you would apply in Spring 2022.

Yes, we have accommodation contracts for 1 term or 2 terms in some of our halls, as well as 39, 43 and 50-week contracts. The choices available may vary from year to year so please check our application portal for the latest information.

Yes, we have accommodation for students starting their courses in January and May intakes. Please check our where can I live page and our application portal for the latest information on the options available.

Generally, applications for January intake open in October and for May intake in February.

No, you don't need a visa to be able to apply for accommodation. We will offer you a room (subject to availability) once you have met all the conditions of your course offer and have received your CAS.

Yes, you can, once Coventry University is listed as your Firm choice in your UCAS application. We still have accommodation available at Clearing but it is subject to availability.

You will receive an offer of accommodation once you have met the conditions of your course offer (become CFA or UF). We begin sending offers of accommodation out from May to students who have met these conditions.

This means you may apply in March and receive an offer in August when the A-level results are released - it may be a long time to wait, but don't worry!

For University-owned halls, you must pay a £300 Advance License Fee* when you are offered a room - this is a small portion of your rent paid upfront, to accept a room offer. It is not refundable at the end of the contract. International students will also be required to pay their first instalment of rent when they accept an offer of accommodation.

You MUST ensure you have the means to pay the Advance License Fee from the time you expect to meet your course conditions, or immediately if you are applying as an unconditional student.

Once you have received an offer of accommodation, you will have 5 days to accept your offer online and pay your deposit. This time frame reduces to 24hrs from the 18th of August 2022.

For our partner private halls, the deposit amount and type may vary and will be specified on the relevant property information pages.

*Students starting in September 2023 can reserve a room in our accommodation from 8 March 2023 for just £90 deposit.

You have the option to reject any offer of accommodation we make and can reapply. However, your new application will start at the bottom of the list, and we cannot guarantee you another offer.

The rooms we offer are the best available on the day based on your application choices.

Please consider your requirements carefully before booking accommodation. The Licence to Occupy is a legally binding contract between you and Coventry University. By confirming your acceptance of the Offer of Coventry University Accommodation you agree to pay the Licence Fee in full and to abide by the Licence to Occupy for the period of the entire residential year.

If you book your accommodation with FutureLets and then decide to move to fully online course delivery, you remain responsible for the Licence to Occupy and accommodation fees for the period of the entire residential year.

Please be aware that if you receive a student maintenance loan from the Student Loans Company (SLC) but decide to study fully online, this will affect your eligibility for a student maintenance loan from the SLC.

The Licence to Occupy is legally binding under UK law and there is no cooling off period or right to withdraw from the contract or Licence to Occupy once signed, even if you have made no payment. For further information on accommodation terms and conditions, visit our T&Cs page.
