Internationalisation
Introduction
Coventry University has developed an International Strategy to take us to 2020, which sets out our internationalisation objectives and is underpinned by developing the international capacity and capability of our staff, enhancing our international research and establishing growth in delivery overseas.
By investing in the global capabilities of our staff through targeted training and experiences overseas, we can drive forward professional development and the overall value staff bring to the classroom.
“Internationalisation” is key to Coventry’s success and is embedded in everything we do. All staff have “international objectives” as part of their yearly appraisal process and personal development is key to achieving these objectives. There are many ways that staff, both professional services and academic, can support our International Strategy and help create truly “global graduates”.
Staff Mobility
Travelling on behalf of the University, in any form, gives staff the opportunity to experience different working practices in an international context, meet peers from various cultural backgrounds working in diverse communities.
These experiences can help staff develop their own skills in understanding and communicating effectively with others as well undertaking important work to drive internationalisation at Coventry University forward. Staff can use the time, when undertaking any staff mobility, to expand their cultural knowledge and then share with others when they return.
There any many different options for mobility, across the world, when working at the University.
Present staff can access more information at the Centre for Global Engagement web pages.
Information to support staff travelling here can be found on the Advice and Guidance area of the staff portal.
Language and Cultural Development
Staff can access many different types of support to aid them in their language and cultural
development.
These vary from short courses on the key cultures of students at the University to 15 session courses for a variety of language learning including Arabic, Greek, Hindi, Italian and Japanese. There are also guides on different cultures for staff and opportunities for engaging in staff and student social events.

The Curriculum
To help create “global graduates” international elements are embedded within the curriculum of our courses. Indeed our Corporate 2021 Strategy sets out that all courses should exhibit substantial aspects of internationalisation.
This provision is aimed at both our home and international students to provide all with an opportunity develop as global graduates. In driving this agenda, a wide range of alternatives form part of the curriculum. This varies from student mobility to online international learning (OIL) experiences.
