Dr Mahmoud Masud is an Assistant Professor in Law who has been teaching at Coventry University since 2017. Mahmoud supervises students at UG and PG levels and Leads Modules including Equity and Trust, Land Law, Legal Methods, Law for Business Organisations and international Placements.
Additionally, Mahmoud is the Lead for Academic Conduct and Student Mobility for the Law School, and part of the Academic Progress Coach, the Religious and Faith and the Quality in Education Committees.
Career overview
Mahmoud adopts innovative and inclusive teaching methods to promote engagement and inclusivity, and to contribute towards creating an outstanding student experience. As an Academic Progress Coach, Mahmoud provides the students with one-to-one and group (academic and personal) support and devotes additional support hours to reach those who require additional support.
As an Academic Conduct Lead for CLS, Mahmoud provides support and training to students and staff on academic integrity while emphasising to the students the importance of such process to their academic progression and future professional career.
Research
Mahmoud has a particular interest in International Criminal and Islamic Human Rights Law. Mahmoud is passionate about comparative research, with minority groups at the centre. Mahmoud's PhD research project examined the possibility of achieving harmonisation between Islamic and International Human Rights Law on issues pertaining to the regulation of offensive and anti-religious expression. Mahmoud's research interests extend beyond free speech and minority rights to women's rights in Islam, Islamophobia as an upsurging global concern and the impact and regulation of war from historical and contemporary perspectives.
