Biography
My background at Coventry University includes working as a Principal Lecturer in Sport since 2007 with my focus of expertise around sport finance, sport pricing and stadia utilisation, sports sponsorship, mega events legacy, and fan engagement. I have been at the forefront of the design and development of the Sport and Event Management program leading the department as its Head winning awards for Innovation in Internationalisation. I held post as Faculty Head of Internationalisation and been involved as lead on a number of international collaborations with world-ranked institutions in Europe, North America, China, the Middle East and South Africa. I designed and gained approval for the University’s MBA Leadership course. I am the School lead on the EPAS accreditation for the BA Sport Management course.
I delivered workshops at the Aspire4Sport Conference in Doha in 2010 as part of Qatar’s 2022 World Cup bid, at NAFSA 2012, as Workshop Chair at Doha Goals Conference in 2013, and at the KHL Corporate Institute in Moscow in 2014.
I have been the subject expert on a range of PHDs including research on Ambush Marketing, Sport Brands and Models for Sport. I have delivered papers at various international conferences around the subject of sport pricing and sport sponsorship.
My professional background focused on finance as an articled clerk, then as a self-employed Management Consultant, and finally as Group Finance Director for an IT company.

Research
My current research project focuses around Fan Engagement, with sports organisations becoming ever-more innovative in seeking new opportunities to engage with existing and/or potential fans to fill the void between stadia capacity and current utilization. The study involves the social media methods used by a number of sports organisations including how engaged they are with their supporters, the fan engagement strategy adopted, and the fans perspective of the social media methods used. Future studies will involve cross-cultural comparisons of the success of social media in achieving stadia utilization across a range of world-wide sports organisations.
