Sarah Horton-Walsh

Head of School of Marketing and Management

Biography

Sarah is Head of School for the School of Marketing and Management within Coventry Business School. She has held the position since 2017. Before the role, she was Deputy Head of the School of Marketing and Management, and Principal Lecturer between 2015 and 2017, Associate Head of School for Student Experience from 2014 to 2015, and Senior Lecturer in Marketing and Advertising and Associate Head of Marketing (Teaching and Learning) up to 2015. Her research interests are inter-related with the focus of her role and focus on student employability and improvement of the student experience. Sarah’s current projects include understanding how students make work placement decisions, and investigating the learning experiences of business students working in global virtual teams.

As a Chartered Marketer and marketing professional with over 18 years industry experience, Sarah has held high profile roles in organisations such as National Express and ATS Euromaster. She continues to work closely with industry and the professional bodies (CIM in particular) in developing the programme of undergraduate and postgraduate courses for the Department of Marketing and Advertising at Coventry Business School. She leads the School of Marketing and Management's strategic focus in the development of CIM and ISMM courses for industry practitioners and organisation clients. Sarah's current teaching responsibilities include marketing communications, advertising, branding, employability/careers, and project/dissertation modules across UG, PG and Executive Education.

  • Conference submission to the British Academy of Management (BAM) Knowledge and Learning Track (2013) in collaboration with Dr. Sarah Montano, Birmingham University. Title: Work placement: I do, or do I? Exploring the impact of source credibility on students’ work placement decisions.
  • Conference submission to TARC international conference 2013 on INNOVATION AND TRANSFORMATION IN LEARNING AND TEACHING in collaboration with Julia Tyrrell and Dr. Carmela Bosangit.  Title:  Assessing the learning experiences of business students working in cross-cultural virtual teams.
  • Keynote speech at the ISMM annual conference in September 2012 to CEOs, sales directors and training professionals on the topic of developing collaboration with HE institutions to professionalise the sales industry.
  • Keynote speech at the CIM Partners in Education conference in March 2013 to HE, FE and private training providers on the topic of embedding CIM syllabi within the UG and PG curriculum for dual award qualifications.
