Claire Simmons
Biography
Claire is an experienced academic with a strong industry journalistic background across national newspapers, magazines, broadcasting and online. She specialises in researching media ethics, celebrity journalism and HE pedagogy. She is widely published as a journalist and has a growing academic profile, recently completing a two-year Higher Education Academy project exploring alternatives to the traditional dissertation.
Her industry experience spans more than 20 years and she retains excellent links with colleagues across the UK and abroad. She is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy, is regularly interviewed by the media industry about ethics and celebrity culture and has won awards for her teaching and journalism. She has extensive experience in curriculum development and has led both undergraduate and postgraduate courses, integrating theory and practice into media programmes.
