This course aims to equip you with integrative thinking combining intuition, analytic reason, and creativity, recognising, and enhancing your leadership capabilities within healthcare systems. The curriculum is designed to help you develop key competencies and capabilities integrating a range of perspectives. The programme develops abilities to work effectively with others within health systems, organisations and services taking a systems approach, to think broadly and deeply about challenges in healthcare, and to reflect critically on one’s performance, the performance of others, and the influence of global healthcare contexts.

How you'll learn

The course design and its modules have been approved as career-relevant by external business and healthcare subject specialists.

  • The course is delivered by academics and subject experts who hold both academic and professional qualifications, many of whom are Fellows or Senior Fellows of HEA, have direct experience in the industry and are passionate about teaching so that employment-related knowledge and skills are a natural part of every lecture and seminar (staff subject to change).
  • Academic and business technology is employed where it assists in the achievement of the learning outcomes4.
  • All modules feature problem-based learning where you could develop your skills in collecting, evaluating, and synthesising resources as well as in critical and creative thinking as you first define and then propose a solution to complex problems.
  • To ensure you gain the most from contact hours, some modules or part of certain modules will be flipped so that you have sufficient time to engage with the subject knowledge according to your learning styles and needs and to prepare for your learning journey and teamwork.
  • All modules are based on current professional practice and academic research. You gain access to current research, develop academic and business research methods across all levels of the curriculum and engage in independent research in your final term.

This course can be offered on a part-time basis. Whilst we would like to give you all the information about our part-time offering here, it is tailored for each course each year depending on the number of part-time applicants. Teaching contact hours

The number of full-time contact hours may vary from semester to semester, however, on average, it is likely to be around 12 contact hours per week. The contact hours may be made up of a combination of face-to-face teaching, individual and group tutorials, and online classes and tutorials.

Additionally, you will be expected to undertake significant self-directed study of approximately 12 hours each week, depending on the demands of individual modules.

As an innovative and enterprising institution, the University may seek to utilise emerging technologies within the student experience. For all courses (whether on-campus, blended, or distance learning), the University may deliver certain contact hours and assessments via online technologies and methods.

The rights of Irish residents to study in the UK are preserved under the Common Travel Area arrangement. If you are an Irish student and meet the residency criteria, you can study in England, pay the same level of tuition fees as English students and utilise the Tuition Fee Loan.

**EU Support Bursary

Following the UK's exit from the European Union, we are offering financial support to all eligible EU students who wish to study an undergraduate or a postgraduate degree with us full-time. This bursary will be used to offset the cost of your tuition fees to bring them in line with that of UK students. Students studying a degree with a foundation year with us are not eligible for the bursary.

On successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Enter or return to the health and social care sector with the knowledge and skills to enhance the efficiency and quality of service provision in your area.
  • Explore careers in related fields such as public and community health management, medical sales or third sector organisations, outpatient care and public health, executive roles in support services and a variety of roles in business and health.

If you exit the course at the Postgraduate Certificate level, you will have demonstrated original and critical application of knowledge and integrative management thinking within health services and organisations. Those of you who exit the course at the Postgraduate Diploma level will have demonstrated original and critical application of leadership skills and integrative management thinking within health services and across health systems.

This is more than a management course. Managers are responsible for planning, organising, leading, and controlling functions within an organisation. But not all managers are leaders. This course will help you develop the skills needed to be a leader – such as communication, motivation, providing inspiration and guidance, and encouraging employees to rise to a higher level of productivity. You will graduate with a leadership qualification in the healthcare sector, offering you the possibility to work for the NHS, private healthcare organisations or academic institutions.

Upon successful completion of the course you should feel confident about entering or returning to the health and social care sector with the knowledge and skills to enhance the efficiency and quality of service provision in your area. You may also want to look at careers in related fields such as public and community health management, medical sales or third sector organisations, outpatient care and public health, support service executives and many more roles in business and health.

As part of the journey of professional and role development, students are encouraged to continue on their academic journey through access to a range of higher degrees, including PhD and other taught doctorates.

Graduate Immigration Route visa
