UK undergraduate applicants visited Coventry University London over two days on the 15th and 16th February 2017 to discover what it will really be like to become a student at the campus. UK undergraduate applicants starting three year or top-up degree courses in October 2017 had the chance to register for a Discover Day which included taster sessions in their chosen subject area and a networking lunch.
Taster sessions were led by Senior Lecturers Deborah Grieve for Hospitality and Tourism, Claire Dawson for Fashion, and a joint Business and Finance taster session was led by Principal Lecturer Alid Kambwili and Senior Lecturer Yvonne Browne. The networking lunch was held on the 32nd Floor of Chapter Spitalfields. Applicants were able to network with other students and staff, including the Careers, Employability and Enterprise team and the Student Recruitment team.
To end the day, applicants took part in practical business simulation challenges where they were tasked to create their very own board games or to design their own unique items of clothing. Students then went head-to-head in teams to pitch to a panel of judges where they explained the concepts behind their products. Winning teams were chosen based on innovation, business strategy, and being enterprising – all characteristics which encompass the ethos of Coventry University London, with the winning teams being awarded Amazon Kindles.
Saadia Omar, Student Recruitment Officer and organiser of Discover said,
“We had a great time getting to know our UK undergraduate applicants last week. We were hugely impressed with their business ideas and their enthusiasm for the activities.
“It became a little competitive at times, but we were thrilled to know that we have potential future Alan Sugars and Richard Bransons coming to study with us. Discover is one of many ways we engage with our UK applicants – it was great to meet students again that we met at higher education fairs and address their application queries in person.”
