Students studying MBA International Fashion Management and MSc International Fashion Marketing had the opportunity to intern at Hat Exhibition Week.

Held in the new fashion studio at Coventry University London Campus the exhibition displayed 75 cutting-edge hat designs of 36 international milliners from UK and Ireland, USA, Australia, South Africa, China and many more. Curated by Monique Lee, Lead Teaching Fellow at Coventry University London Campus, and Anna Mott, the exhibition explored new wearable technologies, materials and skills in the new era of fashion and celebrated artisanship of millinery in the 21st century.

The centrepiece of the exhibition was a dynamic and interactive hat installation featuring hats adorned with colourful LED lights which react to ambient sounds. The installation was jointly designed by Monique Lee Miller and Paul Gough.

Other highlights included never seen before in the UK, a vintage Christian Dior turban (France) and three pieces by the late Paris Kyne (Australia).

The students worked alongside the curators of the event for a month and were involved in a number of key areas of work including PR, social media, securing sponsorship, and ensuring that all hats were delivered on campus and sent back to the designers safely.

MBA International Fashion Management student, Sofie Gill said:

“My role within the PR team involved looking for sponsorship deals which could help us organise our private view party. The party was attended by milliners, press and hat enthusiasts.

“The project helped me learn more about the role of PR within a fashion event. I learned to work under pressure and to drive the project forward for a positive end result.”
