Coventry University Students’ Union (CUSU) London is due to launch from 1st August 2017. As part of the offering for students, the position of Campus Officer was created. Adam Benjema, first year BA (Hons) International Finance and Accounting won the recent elections for Campus Officer, and we met with him to find out more about the role.
Q: Why did you decide to run for Campus Officer?
As a first year student, I have experienced a lot about university life, seen what I like and what I think could be improved, taking part in all parts of student life from exams to events. It was perfect timing for me, coming towards the end of my first year, when the chance arose to run for Campus Officer in the election and I thought I could make my impact on the university. I thought it would be a great opportunity to improve aspects of student life and facilitate communication with students.
Q: What does being Campus Officer entail?
As Campus Officer I will be responsible for supporting students with any issues that might arise, and communicating these to the university, acting as an independent voice to represent students. Running the Students’ Union I will be helping student societies in the organisation of both day-to-day activities and the promotion of events. I will help ensure that students are kept up to date with any events that are taking place on campus and any other information that is useful and relevant. Although this is a part-time role I will be regularly available on campus and available on email or WhatsApp for students to contact me.
Q: What are you most excited about and what benefits will CUSU London bring to students?
I’m looking forward to rising to the challenge of representing and supporting students and improving student satisfaction with the university. The Students’ Union will open the possibility for students to be more connected, take part in sports clubs and new societies, and be more of a community. Societies will be listed on the Students’ Union website, giving students an easier way to find out about activities they can take part in
Q: What can we look forward to the Students’ Union bringing to campus in the next year?
I would love to bring a newsletter to students; it would be great to have a regular physical newsletter distributed to students to keep them up to date with the Students’ Union, societies, sports clubs, and current events. It would be really good to have an events desk where students can find clear, up-to-date information about events happening in the university. I want to expand membership of societies which will help improve funding for society activities and events.
Q: How can students get in touch if they have any questions about the Students’ Union?
Students can feel free to get in touch with either myself or Student Experience Coordinator, Veranika Hrytskevich. I will be contactable on ac6584@coventry.ac.uk if students would like to know more about the Students’ Union, if they would like help with setting up a society or running an event, or for any advice they may need. I will be holding regular meetings with student representatives to discuss their courses and receive feedback.
We wish Adam the best of luck in his role as Campus Officer.
