Global Business Management (GBM) Society is Coventry University London’s newest student society inviting students to join. We met with the Mariana Sampaio, President and Founder of the GBM Society for an insight into why they started this society and what students who join can expect from the society.
At the start of her second year of University, Mariana decided that she wanted to make the most of her time here and started becoming more active in student life on campus by attending guest lectures and other events organised by both Coventry University London and student societies. From this, Mariana with the mentorship of Senior Lecturer, Samura Khan, started the GBM Society in early 2017. The society has received a really positive response and so far has close to 30 members.
The GBM Society prides itself on being open to all students, not just those with an interest in global business management. Mariana is hopeful that the society will “give the students the events they want” by constantly being open to feedback or requests of students for social events, guest speakers or even day trips. Mariana believes that this style of society is key to “building a sense of community at Coventry University London and encourages all students to get involved”.
The GBM Society recently hosted their first event, the Angels and Devils night. Held on campus, in conjunction with the Pakistani Society and HR Society, all students were invited to purchase tickets for the event which included a DJ, food and drink and entry into a lucky draw prize. Of their future events Mariana said “we want to do a little bit of everything for events, we want to do something for everyone, some students prefer academic events over social parties, so we are looking to involve all students by hosting a large variety of events”.
The GBM Society aims to encourage a sense of community at Coventry University London by breaking down barriers and inviting both domestic and international students to come together and enjoy student life. Joining couldn’t be easier, simply get in contact with Mariana or any member of the society through email or Facebook. Once part of the society, students will be added to their email and Whatsapp group for regular updates on upcoming events.
