MBA students enjoy ​a hat trick of international visits for 2015

MBA International Human Resource Management students enjoyed their third international trip of 2015 after visiting Paris and Tokyo. Led by Aaron Taylor and James Terzeon, 15 students from CULC and 5 students from the University of Sunderland London Campus visited Basel, Switzerland in early November.

During the trip we received a wonderful presentation on what it is like to live and work in Switzerland from Professor Robert Buttery from the University of Applied Sciences, Northwestern Switzerland. His enthusiastic and engaging presentation benefitted students helping them put Swiss business culture into context. Staff are currently in discussion with Professor Buttery regarding future Online International Learning projects between the UES and Coventry University London Campus.

The highlight of the trip was a visit to Novartis where students enjoyed a fabulous tour of their world class campus and an engaging presentation of a truly global organisation at the forefront of talent management.  The main purpose of this visit saw five of our students pitted against their Sunderland counterparts with both teams asked to conduct primary research on the benefits of talent management, using Novartis as a case study.

Back in the UK, the two sides presented their findings in a competitive setting hosted by the London Campus. The event was extremely popular and a number of new relationships were developed as a result of the project. The success of the trip and enthusiasm with which students from both universities approached the research task, was lauded by John Watkins, Head of HRM and Fashion, Azmat Firdous, Assistant Programme Manager UoS London Campus and John Mullen, Head of Learning and Teaching, Anglia Ruskin University London who also judged the event. ​
