Coventry University London recently opened a number of student-focused spaces on its third floor with the aim of improving students’ experience on campus. Encompassing the entire third floor of campus, the redevelopment includes a brand new student lounge as well as an expanded library, offering more space and new facilities for students to study. The newly launched Coventry University Students’ Union (CUSU) London will now be situated in the open student lounge to support and represent all students of the university.
The development of the third floor represents an investment of several hundred thousand pounds and encompasses a brand new open plan library with new furniture and more study spaces for students with a total increase of 25% in seating. The library features an IT skills training room with state of the art equipment including an 86 inch display screen for interactive training sessions, as well as two new huddle rooms featuring interactive screens for collaborative group work. Students will be able to take advantage of a new laptop self-service machine, providing greater access to IT equipment.
The new student information desk on the third floor includes accommodation services for students to receive advice and help with accommodation, and a large touchscreen which students will be able to use for assistance and booking appointments outside of office hours. A private area is available for students to have discussions with members of the student information team, and meeting rooms are available for confidential appointments. Inside the large, open plan student lounge, there is an interactive projector which students can use for film nights and other activities, table tennis, table football, and video games consoles. Students have access to a vending machine equipped with contactless technology, and a large amount of lounge seating to relax in between classes.
Janet Hannah, Pro-vice-chancellor and CEO of Coventry University London, said:
“I am delighted to see our new third floor open as a direct response to student feedback. Our redeveloped third floor offers students a variety of new spaces to enjoy, both for study and social activities.
Our investment in facilities for students reflects our commitment to student satisfaction, and we look forward to seeing the newly launched students’ union develop.”
The new third floor was officially opened by John Latham, Vice-chancellor of Coventry University, in time for new students joining in October, and we hope students enjoy studying and socialising in the new space.
