Employability is at the heart of all courses at Coventry University London. In addition to learning from industry-trained academics, students have the opportunity to gain insights into the world of business by attending guest lectures by industry leaders. Recently, a number of BA (Hons) International Finance and Accounting students attended two Bloomberg events.
‘Navigate the New Silk Road’ was an event relating to China’s bond and stock markets. Topics included Chinese equity markets, the China Interbank Market, and the Belt and Road Initiative, a development strategy focused on connectivity and cooperation between Eurasian countries. Presentations were delivered by Chinese governors and a senior member of Chinese Asset Management, one of China’s largest investment countries.
Current student Dalius Mikalauskas said:
“I believe that the event was interesting and significant as we can see China’s capital markets may soon be accessible to the average investor. This would be a very significant event as China will soon be the world’s leading economy.”
Guest speakers from Bloomberg and other financial companies visit Coventry University London to deliver presentations and masterclasses to students. These talks cover aspects of using Bloomberg terminals on campus for financial analysis, and current trends in the finance industry.
Carol Tee, Senior Lecturer in Finance said:
“We have an emphasis on getting students career ready to enhance their employability. Not only do students learn on a simulated basis to gain practical experience with financial software, but speakers give students insights into current trends in the industry.
“These masterclasses are open not only to finance students but also to other Coventry University London students who would like to learn about the finance industry. Our fantastic location in the heart of the City of London means that students are surrounded by banks and financial institutions, giving them real business exposure.”
Students and staff look forward to more Bloomberg visits and guest speakers in the future.
