Coventry University London will host the inaugural Global Energy Summit (GES) on 26th July 2017. GES will be a one day event, open to all and free to attend, covering current topics in the oil and gas industry. This will include oil and gas-related finance and policies in different countries, industry trends, and sustainability. We met with MBA Global Financial Services student Fatemeh Mokhtari, who is part of a student team supporting the event, to find out more.
Q: How did the GES come about?
“This is the first summit that Coventry University London is holding. Dr Beem Beeka Senior Lecturer in Energy announced that we would be hosting an event on global energy and a number of students volunteered to support the event. If GES 2017 is successful we hope to run the GES as an annual event and possibly start other summits.”
Q: Who will be attending the event?
“Anyone in the oil and gas industry, anyone who is interested in the industry, and students from anywhere in London are more than welcome to attend. We would like to extend an open invitation to everyone. GES will be relevant to students studying a variety of subjects and will provide valuable insight into the industry and how it intersects with finance, management, and business. Over 120 people have registered so far with a large number of those being industry guests. GES will provide an excellent networking opportunity to students from a range of subjects and backgrounds.”
Q: What has your role been with the event?
“I have been responsible for PR and marketing for the event which is a new experience for me. I have gained many new skills and experiences as I have taken responsibility to promote the event online, on social media, and in print media. The opportunity to be a part of this event has especially given me and other students the chance to build networking skills.”
Q: What will take place during the day and how can people join?
“GES will be a whole day event, with different panels covering developments, uncertainties, opportunities and strategies in today’s energy industry. We are looking to bring as many people as possible to this event, and anyone can register via our Eventbrite page. You can also learn more about the GES via our Twitter page.”
