Claire’s extensive experience as a textile designer includes creating award winning designs and working with luxury brands and manufacturers in the UK, Europe and Asia. Her expertise spans design, trend and colour prediction, fabric and product development, and marketing and brand strategy. Recently, Claire’s interests have expanded to comprise sustainability and the end-of-life management of textiles, including textile exports from the UK to Sub-Saharan Africa, and mapping export supply chains and consumer relationships in the reuse market.
Claire has lectured undergraduate and postgraduate fashion marketing and management students at Coventry University London since 2016, specializing in modules for research methods, product development, marketing and cultural studies.
Claire’s cross-disciplinary approach to research also spans fashion and maritime history. Currently, she is investigating symbolism in sub-cultural dress codes created by distant-water trawlermen during the mid-twentieth century when they created a specific leisure ‘uniform’ for wearing ashore after long-range fishing voyages.

Research and Consultancy
Claire proposed, wrote, researched and managed alongside an arts-based organisation a successful Heritage Lottery Funded project (Suited and Booted), which was based on cultural fashion identity through work and leisure. The project had three outcomes: an education programme (over 1000 schoolchildren were involved); a documentary film (https://vimeo.com/138997632); and, an exhibition of Claire’s textiles for fashion.
The project was the catalyst for Claire to continue her research on the theme, recently completing her PhD King of the Deck: The sartorial extremism of the distant-water trawlermen of Hull 1950-1980. Claire continues to research creative, academic and educational outputs in relation to her topic.
