Coventry University has maintained its positive performance in the health and life sciences, according to the latest Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by subject.
The university kept its top 600 ranking for Clinical, Pre-Clinical and Health courses, having also ranked 501-600 in the same subjects in 2019.
The ranking confirms the university’s consistent performance and its commitment and passion to provide outstanding opportunities to students, some from the most disadvantaged areas in the UK.
The Faculty of Health and Life Sciences’ ‘learning through exploration’ approach to teaching and learning enables students to develop their skills through hands-on simulation activities, using the outstanding facilities in the £60m Alison Gingell building.
These include mock operating theatre wards and ambulance, as well as activity-led learning using virtual reality and augmented reality teaching materials. This approach embeds learning in context and is believed to contribute to the high rates of student satisfaction reported in the health courses.
The faculty is also a centre for research and innovation in healthcare, with staff developing new products and materials, such as the simulated ‘Glucometer blood testing hand’ invented by Nina Godson, senior lecturer in clinical skills. The equipment helps patients, students and health care professionals to practice blood glucose testing safely and take the appropriate action for a wide range of blood sugar results.
I’m pleased with our consistent performance in the subject rankings, which reflects our commitment to provide state-of-the-art learning facilities and deliver high quality teaching and a great experience to our students.
Professor Lisa Bayliss-Pratt, Interim Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Health and Life Sciences
