Coventry University has now joined the top 600 universities in the world for engineering and technology, according to the 2020 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by subject released today.
The new rankings show that Coventry University has improved its scores across all categories of measurement, including teaching, research and international outlook. The university was also ranked in the top 600 for computing, marking a positive overall performance for the Faculty of Engineering, Environment and Computing (EEC).
Based in the £50 million Engineering and Computing Building, the EEC faculty benefits from Coventry’s status as the birthplace of the British motor industry and the historical heart of UK manufacturing.
The faculty enjoys a global reputation for business-focused research and teaching, and works with some of the biggest names in the industry, including Jaguar Land Rover, GE Aviation, Cummins, and Intel. Many of these provide direct input to teaching delivery, as well as regular feedback through membership of the faculty’s industry advisory boards.
The university has invested £29 million in a new four-storey engineering and computing building. It will feature a range of spaces including a gaming and virtual reality studio, a specialist area for 3D printing and rapid prototyping, a laser facility, and physics and electronics laboratories.
I’m delighted to see that we’re being recognised for our commitment to teaching excellence and research, and for our international outlook as our delivery of courses overseas through partnerships grows. We are firmly committed to preparing our students for successful, long-lasting global careers and we’ve ensured that our engineering and computing courses offer a unique employability-led learning experience. Our innovative activity-led learning approach, underpinned by ‘real-life’ projects, experiences and access to industry-standard software and equipment, has shaped the unique culture of our forward-facing faculty.
