Businesses in the region are being encouraged to find out more about the importance of the growing digital economy at a free event taking place at Coventry University in January.
The University together with The Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) Network is hosting the Digital Innov-8 conference at Coventry University Technology Park on Tuesday 28 January. Aimed at LEP members and local businesses, the conference will look at how new and emerging digital technologies are driving economic development.
Featuring key note speakers and industry experts - including Dr Mike Short, Vice President of Telefónica Europe and Dr Nick Appleyard, Head of Digital for the Technology Strategy Board – the conference will also illustrate how the digital economy can be harnessed to create further growth.
Topics under discussion include the role of LEPs in creating a sustainable digital economy; the impact that digital technology has on business; research and innovation; the move towards the creation of ‘smart cities’; and next generation connectivity.
Interactive sessions will also demonstrate how Coventry University’s spin-out company Serious Games International is using video games science and technology such as 3D simulation and augmented reality to support UK businesses in setting themselves apart from their competitors.
Participants will also have the opportunity to explore the facilities at the University’s Touch Digital tech lab. Backed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and run in collaboration with Aston University, Touch Digital helps local businesses integrate the latest technology into the their operations to boost productivity. Its tech lab features interactive touch screen tables, an array of smart devices, an immersive racing car simulator and a state-of-the-art 3D printer.
