Today’s Guardian University Guide 2018 has brought another rise up the rankings for Coventry University, which is now in 12th spot – its highest ever placing, up from 15th.
This position cements its status as the country’s top modern university.
The ranking puts Coventry ahead of many Russell Group universities and builds its reputation from other key league tables, notably last month’s Complete University Guide where it was ranked top new university, and the Times Higher Education world rankings – the latter naming Coventry as one of the world’s top institutions under 50 years old.
HESA data also revealed that Coventry offered more overseas experiences for its students than other university.
In today’s newly published guide, Coventry University is ranked top in England for its teaching quality score, and is third in the UK for the percentage of final-year students satisfied with feedback and assessment by lecturers.
The university also ranks as number one in the UK for courses in film production and photography, and is in the country’s top two for its courses in the mechanical engineering and hospitality, event management and tourism categories.
Coventry is also in the UK’s top 10 for courses in economics (5th), sports science (8th), mathematics (8th), journalism (9th) and civil engineering (10th) – with a further ten subject area rankings featuring Coventry in the top 20 overall.

Vice-Chancellor Professor John Latham said:
This is wonderful news for our staff, for our students and for the wider Coventry community. We’re proud to be recognised in this way and to be doing our bit to showcase the great strengths and qualities of this city.
We’ve enjoyed a great deal of success in recent years thanks to the dedication of our staff who help students from all over the world achieve their potential. It’s this commitment that really defines what kind of university we are, more than any league table position can do.
