Coventry University will be launching a new short course focusing on the trafficking of human beings, as part of their extensive CPD programme next month.

Taking place on 18th July at the Techno Centre, Coventry University, this free event will highlight how human trafficking is widespread in the UK, as well around the globe, and takes on many forms including sexual exploitation, forced labour and domestic servitude.

This new bespoke course will look at what is trafficking, how do we identify the victims, how can we combat trafficking and, most importantly, how do we prevent it.

Those working within the public, voluntary and non-governmental sectors are in the front line of the fight against human trafficking and need to know and understand how to identify and protect victims. Though, people in the private sector also have a social duty to respond to trafficking. By training staff members it is possible to avoid potential situations whilst fulfilling ‘corporate social responsibilities’.

The team leading the training are: Dr Simon Massey, Senior Lecturer and the Manager of the Postgraduate Course in the Department of International Studies and Social Sciences at Coventry University and Glynn Rankin, an independent expert in the field of trafficking in human beings and people smuggling.

Dr Simon Massey, said:

Human trafficking is essentially a form of modern day slavery. Therefore the legal and moral responsibility for eliminating this crime lies not only with government and the police, but also businesses, trade unions, voluntary organisations and the wider public. Coventry University is offering this informative course to target a wide range of audiences that will teach you how to recognise and properly respond to human trafficking.

As an established education and professional development provider, Coventry University has a proven pedigree. A number of our professional development courses have won awards from the CBI and the National Training Awards, and many of our courses are developed and delivered in partnership with professional bodies, ensuring the skills learnt are industry relevant and up to date.

A second launch event will also take place at Coventry University’s London Campus on 19th July.
