At the recent World of Learning exhibition (NEC, Birmingham) Coventry University discussed the value of partnering with a university for professional learning and development programmes.
In the world of professional development and learning, universities occupy a surprisingly small piece of the market. Most people are still awaking to the fact that universities deliver professional development courses to business and are yet to consider them a viable training partner above private providers. However, universities are internationally reputed as excellent providers of education and cutting edge knowledge.
Not only can training boost staff motivation, confidence and competence, it also enhances the company’s reputation and staff retention rates. An injection of new knowledge and skills into the existing workforce is essential for any business to stay at the top of its game.
Paul Fairburn, director of business development at Coventry University, said:
In comparison to private providers, universities offer more choice and can act as a one-stop-shop for integrated content across a multitude of disciplines – reflecting the mixing pot of disciplines and expertise needed in many modern businesses.
A university-business collaboration can result in workforce training schemes where employees achieve accredited qualifications. Universities can offer flexible delivery at the company’s site or on university premises and can provide a vast range of custom designed training solutions.
The Coventry University seminar at the World of Learning also included a presentation from Bryan Carrington, skills development manager at Rolls-Royce, who spoke of how important a comprehensive training framework was to the company’s skill requirements today and in the future.
