While many students are thinking about securing places on university courses for this September, it’s not too early to start your application for study in 2018 as UCAS opens its registration today (May 23).
Simon Jones, Deputy Director of Admissions at Coventry University said as applications through Undergraduate Apply Live are now open there’s plenty of chance to get ahead.
While you can’t submit your applications through the admissions service until September 6, the webpage is now live to start filling in today. So now is a good time to begin researching which universities and subjects are right for you, and to start planning your personal statement.
With a range of options such as virtual tours, open days, university website blogs and student testimonials out there, it’s not too soon to find out what is going to be available for you in 2018.
Simon Jones said:
“It is never too early to start thinking about university. It is a huge step and a serious financial commitment which could secure or shape your future working life. The more thought and consideration you give to it now the better.
“One thing we hear from new students coming to university is that they didn’t know so many courses were on offer, or the specialist and unusual things they could study.
There are opportunities at university to study subjects that are completely new to you, that may include opportunities to study or work overseas or provide exemption from professional qualifications that can help further your career.
Universities degrees don’t follow a national curriculum in the way that A-levels or BTEC qualifications do so even degrees with the same name at different universities may be very different. And that’s why researching your degree choices fully is so important.
There is so much out there it really does need a lot of thought and research. If you’re a year away from applying, knowing exactly what is available could help you make the right decisions. It may help you prepare for exams, or even know which options best suit your chosen course.
It could even be that you need to start thinking about work experience to enhance your personal statement or putting together a portfolio for interviews and there is no harm in getting well ahead by starting now.
The more work you put in now, the less there is for you to do the closer we get to September. You’ll be refining your application when others may only just be beginning their preparation giving you the best chance of securing the degree offer you want.”
Applications through Ucas for September 2018 study can be submitted any time from September 6 2017. Prospective applicants can open applications from today via Ucas online.
