A series of video guides to sports which will take place during London 2012 has been produced with local clubs and given a big screen debut.

Coventry University has partnered with Coventry City Council to create a series of video guides to Olympic and Paralympic sports with local sports clubs.

Eight short video guides have been completed so far, with the aim of creating 26 by the time London 2012 begins, and the videos were recently given their debut on the big screen at Coventry’s London 2012 Live Site in Millennium Place.

The project provides placements and work experience for more than 30 arts students to supplement their course studies and has been awarded the London 2012 Inspire Mark, which recognises projects which are inspired by and reflect the core values of the Games.

Steve Dawkins, course director for media production at Coventry University, said: “This project has been a great opportunity for media production students to be involved in London 2012.

They have been introduced to sports that they knew nothing about and I hope that the films they have produced will introduce those sports to as many people as possible.

It is inspirational to see so many people, of all ages and all abilities, participating in such a wide range of sports.

The videos will be shown repeatedly on the Live Site screen during the countdown to London 2012.

They provide an outline of a wide range of sports as well as details about where people can participate. It is hoped the videos will encourage more people to take part in sport at all levels across the region.

Councillor Phil Townshend, Coventry City Council cabinet member for sport, said:

This project is all about educating people in the range of sports that will feature at the London 2012 Games and informing people that there are clubs and opportunities to participate in the sports within their local area.

It will also develop and improve the skills of the young students who are taking part in this project and further enhance their employment opportunities as they gain experience outside of the classroom dealing with real life scenarios and clients.

There are so many great clubs working and delivering brilliant sporting opportunities for local people and this project showcases clubs in a welcoming way which highlights their coaching expertise and ability to accommodate new people.
