Experience an enthralling blend of sensuous storytelling and live music as StrongBox Theatre presents its debut show, The Twelve Dancing Princesses.
Inspired by Jeanette Winterson's novel, 'Sexing the Cherry', StrongBox Theatre have created a distinctively dark and disturbing, yet playful depiction of this popular Brothers Grimm Tale.
Twelve sisters, all once gracious dancers, take to the stage to tell you of their troublesome turmoil. Torn apart and forced into marriage, these sisters have led a frustrating and dismal life with their husbands. Having rebelled, they attempt to reunite and live as they once were.
Three final year Theatre and Professional Practice students at Coventry University started StrongBox Theatre in order to create original and atmospheric adaptations of much loved fairytales.
The show is one of a number of productions that for the Coventry University’s Art and Design festival, SPECTRUM 2012. This performing arts festival enables the University to showcase final year collaborative projects.
Laura Whitehouse from StrongBox Theatre, said:
“One of the wonderful things about devising is the freedom of creativity where there are no boundaries or restrictions. The show concentrates on the lives of the princesses after they were forced into marriage, so in many ways can be seen as a sequel to the original tale. This playful, alternative fairy-tale is one that the audience won’t forget anytime soon.”
