Students seeking a place at Coventry University since A-level results day have been more active than ever on Twitter according to the institution’s social media statistics.
Over 1000 tweets were made to the University in the four days following Thursday’s results day, with almost half of those being sent the same morning that students picked up their grades.
Tweets ranged from excited school-leavers announcing their success in getting a place at Coventry, to students who had just missed out on their grades and were looking for advice on clearing.
One parent even tweeted:
“Have to say @covcampus were amazing yesterday when my daughter was going through #clearing2012”
Despite the rush for places, opportunities still remain in clearing for sixth-formers looking to progress into higher education.
The University’s health courses proved the most in-demand – nursing and midwifery programmes did not even enter clearing – but spaces on full-time degrees in engineering, computing and business are still available as of Tuesday.
Courses such as Automotive Engineering, Business Studies and Computing each have between five and 15 places still to be filled, and the University’s School of Art and Design also has a similar number of places left in Performing Arts, Industrial Design and Media and Communications, amongst others.
Professor Ian Marshall, deputy vice-chancellor of Coventry University, said:
“We’ve confirmed places for over 3,500 applicants since A-level results day, but there are still opportunities on a number of our courses. It’s good to see applicants engaging with us so enthusiastically on Twitter, but we’re encouraging prospective students to get in touch on the phone as soon as they can via our clearing hotline – +44 (0)24 7679 1791.”
Coventry University College – which launches in September – also has places left on its flexible degree programmes. The college’s courses have been created as an alternative to a conventional degree, with modules designed to fit around a part-time job.
The University’s clearing hotline is +44 (0)24 7679 1791 and will be open between 8.30am and 5pm all this week. Courses which are available can be viewed at www.coventry.ac.uk/clearing.
