The programme, ‘British Council Researcher Links’ provides opportunities for early career researchers from the UK and internationally to interact, learn from each other and explore opportunities for building energy conservation research collaborations.
As part of this programme, we are now recruiting early career researchers to participate in the above workshop.
The workshop will provide a unique opportunity for sharing research expertise and networking. During the workshops early career researchers will have the opportunity to present their research in the form of brainstorming and discussion of specific case studies with established researchers from the UK and partner countries. There will be a focus on building up links for future collaborations and participants selected on the basis of their research potential and ability to build longer term links.
The British Council will cover the costs related to the participation to the workshop, including: travel (both international and local), accommodation and meals. Costs for the visa will be covered; however participants will be responsible for making all the necessary arrangements. Although this cost will not be covered by the British Council, participants are encouraged to purchase an adequate travel and medical insurance. The British Council accepts no responsibility for any problems which may occur when the participants are in-country.
The aim of this event is to address recent advances in energy conservation for buildings in the UK and China, this workshop will bring together experts from both countries to share experiences and develop new technologies for buildings.
The workshop has the following objectives:
1) Comprehensive review of contemporary research in China and the UK on low impact building technology, renewable energy and energy management in residential and commercial buildings. It will be achieved through keynote speeches from coordinators and mentors, and presentations, discussions and brainstorming from participants around two specific case studies.
2) With the case studies, the new technology and suitable renewable energy application contributing to the building energy development will be identified for further research direction for the ECRs.
3) Strengthen the research capacity through the new UK-China collaboration facilitated by networking opportunities, highlighting the expertise of all ECRs, the facilities and support from their home institutes. Develop a new interdisciplinary energy research agenda between two partner countries. This will be achieved by developing a cooperation plan targeting research student exchanges, joint research publications and applications.
The full application form below, along with a two-page position statement, must be completed and submitted by 31 May 2017.
The organisation will select 17 Participants from UK and 17 from China. The selection criteria are:
Applicants will be notified by email 2 months prior to the workshop.
Equal opportunities and diversity are at the heart of the British Council’s cultural relations ambitions. While recognising that some research fields are dominated by one particular gender, co-ordinators are encouraged to work towards an equal gender balance, promote diversity. They must not exclude applicants on the basis of ethnicity, gender, religious belief, sexual orientation, or disability. Participants’ selection undertaken by workshop organisers must not contravene this policy. Extra support to enable participation of Early Career Researchers with special needs will be given.
