Abstract

Drawing upon experiences working with displaced people in Rwanda and Nepal, Professor Elena Gaura and Dr Alison Halford will discuss why socio-technical energy design frameworks using new technologies can build the capacity and resilience of displaced communities. Adopting a long-term approach towards energy planning that focuses on addressing the rights of refugees and other displaced populations (for example those who are internally displaced), creates options for shared community assets. Responsive to the energy needs and aspirations of displaced people, Elena and Alison show how such long term planning approaches can generate pathways for increased community opportunities and improved outcomes.

This event is hosted by the Centre for Trust, Peace and Social Relations.
