Centre for Arts, Memory and Communities launches first set of PhD studentship opportunities

The Centre for Arts, Memory and Communities (CAMC) is offering 5 fully-funded PhD projects related to its key thematic areas: Cultural Memory, Well-being and the Arts and Critical Practices.
These opportunities will contribute to a growth in CAMC's already vibrant postgraduate community. Each studentship project has been designed by a leading researcher within the centre, some in collaboration with cross-sector partners.
The studentships form part of the wider university COVID-19 studentship campaign; CAMC’s projects offer niche approaches to artistic challenges posed by the pandemic, and look toward the post-pandemic future.
CAMC specialises in multimodal and transdisciplinary research which explores the historical, social and political dimensions of creative and cultural production. It works closely with local, national and international partners, including Coventry’s museums and galleries. The centre also works with leading researchers and practitioners in fields across the humanities, including: Art History; Design; English Literature and Language and Visual and Curatorial Practices.
One studentship, developed in collaboration with the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Devices for Dignity MedTech Co-operative will focus on the design of technologies to improve quality of life through more effective self-management of long term health conditions. This studentship sits within CAMC’s Wellbeing and the Arts strand, home to multiple creative health projects including the H2020 funded Maturolife project, that is developing innovative wearable and furniture-based solutions to support healthier and more independent ageing.
We are excited to offer these studentships, which advance our goal of building a robust and engaged postgraduate community whose transformative research influences both their academic fields and individuals and communities beyond the university. We look to recruit students who are motivated to develop creative and critical expertise to demonstrate the transdisciplinary interventions the humanities can make in the world during, and beyond, COVID-19.

All five studentships will commence in January 2021 and are open to UK/EU graduates who meet the stated Coventry University Research Programme eligibility criteria. Deadline for applications is 7th October 2020.
