Below illustrates some of the major funders for the the Centre for Fluid and Complex Systems (FCS) projects both past and present.
Research in FCS is solidly rooted in our international network of world-leading academic and non-academic partners across the globe. Our flow measurement experts work closely with TÜV-NEL, the UK National Flow Laboratory, who are a global provider of technical services in key areas including testing, certification, verification and knowledge transfer, as well as the Advanced Instrumentation Research Group at the University of Oxford.
For over 18 years the statistical physics research theme have nurtured a close collaboration with the Universities of Leipzig (Germany), Lorraine (France) and the Institute of Condensed Matter Physics (Ukraine) and together we established the L4 International Doctoral College for the Statistical Physics of Complex Systems, to facilitate the best possible collaborative research.
Our partnership with CNRS Laboratoire National des Champs Magnetiques Intenses, in France, allows us access to the only facility in the world to deliver high magnetic fields (>10 T). This important partnership enables us to hold a world-leading position in experimental magnetohydrodynamic turbulence.
Through the Nonequilibrium in Environment and Engineering Systems research group we collaborate closely with the British Geological Survey (BGS), Nottingham Trent University (NTU), the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the University of Barcelona. In these collaborations, our partners benefit from our expertise in computational techniques, while providing us with access to world class experimental facilities. Examples include natural (geological) and artificial (using additive manufacturing) porous samples, used in high-pressure and -temperature flow-through experiments imaged visually as well as with micro-Ct and MRI.
Together, with all of our partners, we work towards the shared goal of delivering real-world solutions to complex fundamental and applied challenges.
