Clinical Sciences and Translational Medicine
We develop and deliver opportunities through globally significant interdisciplinary research and innovation excellence in clinical sciences and translational medicine to improve health across the life course.
Focus of our research
Our aim is to develop and deliver opportunities through globally significant interdisciplinary research and innovation excellence in clinical sciences and translational medicine to improve health across the life course.
Using a translational research approach, we will develop, evaluate, and implement novel physiological, pharmacological, behavioural, and technological interventions to enhance prevention, diagnosis, and management of diseases. Our interventions aim to be culturally acceptable, scalable, cost-effective, and sustainable.
OBJECTIVES:
- Establish and deliver nationally and internationally leading interdisciplinary research and innovation in clinical science and translational medicine.
- Develop and implement innovative interdisciplinary interventions to improve the health and wellbeing of people regionally, nationally, and internationally.
- Strengthen our research and innovation capabilities in clinical science and translational medicine.
- Nurture our postgraduate researchers to become future leaders in research and innovation.
- Attract, develop, and deliver internationally recognised research with the global impact.
VISION: Develop and deliver opportunities through globally significant interdisciplinary research and innovation excellence in clinical sciences and translational medicine to improve health across the life course.
MISSION: Translate research findings and innovation excellence into clinical practice to improve length and quality of life of people across the world.

Our multidisciplinary consortium, including three small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) and two stakeholder organisations, will be guided by medical advice and regulatory and health technology experts to deliver the decision support system as a medical class 2b device, reaching TRL 8 by the end of the project (2023-2027). |
|
This project aims to develop the Cardiac Output Response to Stress (CORS) test SCORE, a digital tool which integrates artificial intelligence technology and combines commonly used HF diagnostic methods to increase diagnostic accuracy in heart failure. |
|
CVCOVID: Cardiovascular implications and physical activity in middle-age and older people with history of Covid-19 (2021-2024). |
The project aims to improve understanding of the effect of COVID-19 on cardiovascular and metabolic function and their malleability with physical activity intervention. |
The aim of the SGABU project is to enhance research capacity and capability of Serbia as EU joining country through collaboration with four European leading research institutions - University of Ioannina, Greece; Vienna University of Technology, Austria; Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium and Coventry University, UK. |
|
The project aims to design an integrated school curriculum physical activity intervention to improve fitness and cardiovascular risk profile in children from deprived backgrounds, and to evaluate feasibility, acceptability, and potential effectiveness of such intervention. | |
HRVdispose: Comparison of RR intervals and heart rate variability between disposable and reusable electrocardiography leads (2021-2023). |
Project aims to assess heart rate variability (beat to beat changes) using novel disposable ECG leads (Kendall DL, Cardinal Health, Ohio, USA). |
