Project objectives
This study aims to explore similarities and differences in men and women’s expectations and experiences of jewellery work, in order to gain an understanding of career capital in the UK jewellery industry and how it contributes to corporate social responsibility, in terms of gender equality and well-being in the industry.
This research aims to address the following questions:
- How do women and men experience work in the jewellery industry and account for their career progress in their organisations?
- How do women and men experience gender in the workplace in the jewellery industry?
- Does jewellery CSR support gender equality and wellbeing in the jewellery industry?
Research impact
Findings of this research will be presented in two key industry conferences: the International Jewellery London and the Annual CIBJO (World Jewellery Confederation) conference; which have participants from the government, NGOs, policymakers and industry with extensive media coverage. The British Jewellery Association has also agreed to host an industry dissemination event at the Birmingham Jewellery Quarter to present the findings to its members.
A practitioner report will be disseminated to different industry stakeholders: (British Jewellers Association; World Jewellery Confederation; Responsible Jewellery Council) via network mailing lists; BJA and RJC websites and through the team’s CSR, SMEs AND JEWELLERY blog.
Several 2-3 page short working briefs linking the research with strategic policy issues and stakeholder interests will be electronically disseminated to the general public, key stakeholders via CBiS website and jewellery blog, network contact lists and jewellery social media.
