PROJECT OBJECTIVES
The team were commissioned to undertake an academic evaluation and impact assessment of the Delivering Quality in General Practice Project and produce a targeted evaluation report on the outcomes of the project, detailing findings, including recommendations for future leadership programmes for General Practice Nurses (GPNs). The aim is to test the applicability of this model of leadership development to the General Practice Nursing workforce.
IMPACT STATEMENT
The original scoping document for the programme, entitled ‘Delivering Quality in General Practice – a Leadership Approach’ identified an absence of robust leadership within the General Practice Nursing (GPN) workforce, consequent to the publication of the Five Year Forward View. The implication was clear, that GPN ability to deliver within the new models of care would be severely compromised by this lack. The aim of the programme was thus to develop the leadership skills, confidence and knowledge of GPNs to deliver high quality, safe and effective community services.
The publication of the evaluation report will reveal insights into the pressures, challenges and opportunities of General Practice Nursing and will inform Health Education England's leadership development strategy for nursing, as well as provide in-depth understandings of the opportunities for transformation of the Primary Healthcare Workforce.
