Dr. Jos Beelen
Biography
Dr. Jos Beelen is Professor of Global Learning at The Hague University of Applied Sciences, where he leads a research group that explores the internationalisation home curricula in higher education.
He is affiliated to the Centre for Higher Education Internationalisation (CHEI) at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Milan and was a visiting scholar at the Centre for International Higher Education (CIHE) at Boston College in 2016.
He acts as the Executive Secretary to the Centre of Expertise for Global Learning, a network of professors and researchers in international education at Dutch universities of applied sciences.
His research interests focus on internationalisation of curricula, particularly the roles and skills of academics in internationalisation processes. Over the past years, he has conducted action research with academics and other stakeholders to identify obstacles and develop enablers for internationalisation of curricula. This resulted in a range of articles and book chapters. He acts as reviewer for the Journal of Studies in International Education (JSIE).
For the European Association of International Education (EAIE), he was the editor of the ‘toolkit’ Implementing Internationalisation at Home (2007) and chaired the Special Interest Group (2004-2014) and subsequently the Expert Community (2014-2016) Internationalisation at Home. He is currently a member of EAIE’s publications committee as well as a certified senior EAIE-trainer. He has contributed to the EAIE Academies since 2011.
As consultant on the implementation of internationalisation at home, Jos has worked with universities in Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Germany, Austria and Flanders as well as in South Africa, Australia, Colombia, Argentina, Brazil and Russia.
Jos holds a bachelor’s degree in History and a master’s degree in Classical Archaeology from the University of Amsterdam as well as a PhD in education from Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan.
Visiting Professor
