Extended Master's with Professional Experience
The College of the Arts and Society has developed a suite of courses which aim to enable you to combine a master’s degree with relevant professional experience. All students enrolled on these courses undertake 6-8 months of professional experience, either externally or on campus.
These courses are designed to enhance employability skills and provide the opportunity to gain relevant industry experience sought by employers. Embedded throughout the courses is ongoing guidance and opportunities to develop skills and attributes which aim to help you to secure a professional experience placement, succeed during the placement and thrive beyond graduation.
Students are expected to source their own professional experience opportunities. You will be given the opportunity to focus on developing the skills required to secure a placement (both on and off campus), which includes CV writing, cover letter writing and multiple mock interviews. In addition, other modules focus on developing critical judgement and enhancing the practical skills and knowledge sought by employers.
Professional experience opportunities (whether within an external company or within the University) are subject to availability, a competitive application and selection process, meeting visa requirements and additional costs. Such experiences may be paid or unpaid, and this will depend on what is being offered and agreed with the host organisation or University.
Students who are not successful in securing professional work experience outside the University will have the opportunity to undertake campus-based professional experience, which will aim to deliver similar learning outcomes through supervised projects and activities designed to offer students the opportunity to integrate theory with an understanding of professional practice.
Following the internship, you will be assessed development, raising your awareness of your growing employability skills and attributes. The internship does not contribute to the overall credits for your master’s qualification.
