What can students do here?
Students can get involved with the following activities: laser cutting, sonic welding, digital printing, screen print, embroidery, accessories, garment manufacturing, visual merchandising, and trend forecasting.
What is the most frequent request you get?
One of the most common requests is ‘how to…’ use the technology to make a specific design or pattern.
How does the School of Art and Design use the studios?
Our workrooms are open to all students – not just Fashion - that have had an induction, as we've had students from Product Design make shoes in our studios.
What equipment/software is available for students to use?
- Laser cutter
- Digital embroidery machines
- Adobe suites
- Sewing machines
- Specialist equipment for leather or pleating machines
How can students interact with the facility?
The more time students spend in the studio, the more they gain from the teaching and facility. There are technicians around all the time, so if students wish to experiment they can do so with support and guidance.
What services and support are provided?
From workshops, 1-2-1 meetings and timetabled workshops, our students are able to book inductions and meetings with our specialist team. We provide all fashion students* with the following materials: fabric, paper, thread, trimmings and zips.
*Final year students have to pay additional for fabric and extras for their final year major product.
What access do students have?
The studios are open Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm, and all free machines are available for student usage.
