College of the Arts and Society Building Redevelopment

College of the Arts and Society Building Redevelopment

We are now in the final stages of the redevelopment of the College of the Arts and Society's new Delia Derbyshire building.

This building complex includes exciting new facilities, creative technologies and spaces which will significantly enhance the ability of our students to engage with our innovative programmes and to learn in exciting new ways. This game-changing investment for the university represents a huge vote of confidence in the creative and cultural sector, and in what we believe we, and our students, can achieve.

These new spaces include a hyper-studio for experimental, collaborative projects with external partners and students from other courses and faculties; new immersive studios for sound and vision (AR VR XR); new photography and film production facilities, hack labs, post-production and games suites, as well as a new gallery and fully updated creative practice studios, workshops and fabrication spaces.

These spaces are not just for the benefit of our students and the expansion of their teaching and learning experience; we are delighted to welcome our local, national and international community to involve themselves in the spaces and the work we do here at the university.

Our aim is to work with and provide opportunities for our commercial partners, from both inside and outside the creative industries, alongside community groups and the general public at large, to remove the veil of mystery surrounding the latest technologies within these immersive and creative spaces.

Our move into the Delia Derbyshire building will happen in phases and we expect that experiences within these fantastic new facilities will start in the coming few months, with the formal opening of the whole building later in 2023.

We are extremely excited at the prospect of how the Delia Derbyshire building will enable us to make a major enhancement of what we can offer our students, commercial and community partners, both at home and overseas. As always, we anticipate great things from both our staff and students, in the kinds of creative projects and practices that will be possible, and across the programmes of activities they will create in this extensive facility.

We look forward to sharing these opportunities with you soon.

We were founded in 1843 through a collaboration of educators, the city and leading industrialists who wanted to help improve the skills of the people of Coventry. The faculty cherishes this great history of innovation, alongside our reputation for educating students who achieve amazing things, going on to win prestigious Global awards, making an impact and securing careers with world-leading companies, but who all contribute to the communities around them.

At our heart, we are doers and makers. This development and investment in our faculty takes what we can offer our students to a whole new level. Providing students and staff with such fantastic, creative learning spaces with innovative, immersive facilities is an opportunity to move things forward and create better futures for everyone involved.
