About us
The School of Humanities brings together the disciplines of English and Languages, History, International Relations, Politics and Sociology. We offer a vibrant and innovative environment as we embrace an ever-changing external world.
Research-informed learning is thoroughly embedded in our community of learning and students have the opportunity to engage with published academics across a range of our courses.
Our students are encouraged to challenge themselves and to widen their skills. Preparing our students for future careers is fundamental; all of our undergraduate students undertake a mandatory module designed to prepare them for their future careers. The School has designated Employment Tutors who offer one-to-one sessions to guide students through what to expect at assessment centres, how to write a winning CV and the opportunity to practise interview techniques.
Our courses have a strong international dimension, as our students have the opportunity to enjoy designated overseas trips or by taking the study abroad option at the end of Year 2.
We currently have links with institutions in Costa Rica, Mexico and the University of the West Indies, and we’re developing further academic projects in Italy and Russia.
The School has a dedicated Languages Centre and is home to the Confucius Institute with its strong links to China.
Our graduates have gone on to work with the BBC, Network Rail, JP Morgan, the NHS, The National Trust, British Army and the House of Commons – to name but a few!
