Summer Schools
In the School of Media and Performing Arts we offer a Summer School course for international students looking to study in the UK during the summer.
Culture and Media
This course explores how we connect with others in a constantly evolving global society. We’ll consider how culture and the media impact upon our understanding of communication practices.
This year, using the theme of Celebrity, we’ll analyse how media converts the ordinary into the extraordinary. From stars across the globe to the reality TV played out in our homes, this course will enrich your understanding of what it is to be human in our contemporary and mediated world.
UK work experience
As an international student, we offer you the chance to gain work experience in the UK, whether it is voluntary experience through the Centre for Global Engagement’s UK Work Experience Team to our dedicated careers service to help you undertake a placement or project Creative Futures.
We work in partnership with a wide range of companies of all sizes, from within the private, public, voluntary, charitable and third sector. Placements and internships provide the student with a competitive advantage in the labour market by allowing them to gain valuable work experience. It also allows students the opportunity to apply theory into practice and to develop the soft skills often sought by employers.
School of Media and Performing Arts UK work experience roles include:
- Designing and developing marketing/advertising material
- Company video production and editing
- Photojournalism and photography/portfolio projects
- General multi-media tasks
- Education/Teaching positions
